The province’s police watchdog is investigating after Calgary police shot a suspect in the southwest community of Bridlewood. At about 3 a.m. Thursday, police received a report of a disturbance involving a man with a weapon in the 1000 block of Bridlemeadows Manor S.W. The Calgary Police Service (CPS) said authorities “attempted to de-escalate the situation” and arrest the individual, but a confrontation occurred. That’s when police shot the suspect, who was later sent to hospital in critical condition. No officers were injured in the incident, CPS said. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, the agency that investigates all incidents involving use of force by police, is looking into the matter. No further details are being provided.
