For the love of hockey: Comedian and actor Dave Foley talks new Crave show

CTV's Ian White spoke to actor and comedian about 'Hockey Fanatics', a new show that features Foley visiting hockey fans in eight different NHL cities.

Even while shooting Fargo in Calgary in the winter of 2023-24, Dave Foley couldn’t shake his lifelong devotion to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The actor and comedian said when he went to a Flames game, “My friends insisted I wear a Calgary Flames shirt, and I said only if it’s Lanny McDonald’s.”

Foley remembers McDonald’s early years in the NHL with the Leafs, before he led the Flames to their only Stanley Cup championship.

Now, Foley has channelled his love for hockey in Hockey Fanatics, currently streaming on Crave.

“There’s very little I enjoy more than going to a hockey game, so it was fantastic,” he said.

Foley visited eight NHL cities, meeting diehard fans, enjoying local cuisine, catching up with celebrity guests and, of course, watching games.

Of the celebrity fans he met, he was most surprised by country star Wynonna Judd’s devotion to the Nashville Predators.

“She and her husband, Cactus, and they were delightful to hang out with, too. A surprise both that she was a hockey fan and that she had heard of me. So, both of those were lovely surprises,” Foley said.
