Electrical pole catches fire in Bankview

A power pole caught fire in the southwest community of Bankview, spreading flames to some nearby trees, emergency crews said Wednesday.

The Calgary Fire Department was called to the scene in the 2400 block of 17 Avenue S.W. just after 5:50 a.m.

Viewer video sent to CTV News show the pole was burning.

Officials said Enmax was called in for support, so the power could be shut off for crews to safely fight the fire.

It’s believed an electrical fault in the transformer is to blame.

No one was injured in the fire.
