Daytime highs will be 20 degrees colder in just over a week

Some colder weather coming in by next week. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

The start of February has been unusually warm across the region with daytime highs in Calgary between 6 C and 18 C, compared to the normal high of -1 C.

Overnight lows have also been above seasonal, often exceeding the average high rather than sitting closer to the average low of -13 C.

This trend will continue for another few days before a major shift in the weather pattern introduces cold air across the country.

A low-riding jet stream will be a key driver of this change, pushing daytime highs in Calgary down to -12 C by next Friday.

Snow is expected through the B.C. interior by the end of this week, with some of that precipitation expected in the foothills and as far east as Calgary.

Accumulations in Calgary should be minimal, between two to four centimetres on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

But before that happens, the weather story in Calgary will be a repeat of the past few days with a light west wind, plenty of sunshine, and highs as warm as 10 C on Thursday.
