A virtual meeting for all of Alberta’s soccer organizations is on hold until further notice, following developments in an Edmonton courtroom this morning. The membership meeting was originally scheduled for Tuesday night. It was supposed to deal with the five-year suspension of former Alberta Soccer Association (ASA) president JR Figueiredo. Figueiredo was suspended by the ASA board after a workplace harassment investigation concluded he made verbal threats about an employee, created a hostile work environment and committed several other infractions. Four soccer groups, including the Calgary Women’s Soccer Association, Edmonton Minor Soccer Association, St. Albert Soccer Association and Battle River Soccer Association, wanted the suspension lifted. They argued the ASA didn’t follow its own bylaws and procedures. A hearing was scheduled Tuesday morning in Edmonton’s Court of King’s Bench to make arguments before a judge. Lawyers for the applicants have confirmed to CTV News a last-minute agreement was reached with the ASA to not hold a membership meeting until a full court hearing can be held, on a date yet to be determined.
