S&P/TSX composite falls more than 100 points as basic materials stocks weigh

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index finished more than 100 points lower on Friday, weighed down by losses in the basic materials sector. 

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 111.92 points at 34,857.34.

Shares of Alamos Gold Inc. and Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. were down about 18 per cent and two per cent respectively. 

Those were some of the stocks that weighed on the overall index.

U.S. stock and commodities markets are closed for the Juneteenth holiday.

The Canadian dollar traded for 70.57 cents US compared with 70.77 cents US on Thursday.
