Rock legend coming back to Barrie after NYE cancellation

A Canadian rock legend is returning to Barrie for a long-time-coming concert.

Barrie fans have been patiently waiting for Kim Mitchell to come back to the city and the time is coming soon.

The JUNO award-winning and multi-platinum artist known for hits like “Patio Lanterns” and “Go For A Soda” will perform at Meridian Place set along the backdrop of Kempenfelt Bay.

The concert is free and will take place on July 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Kim Mitchell was originally planning on headlining the 2026 New Year’s Eve celebrations, but the event was cancelled due to weather. The City said it was hoping to reschedule him for Winterfest but unfortunately, he was unable to commit to that performance either, citing a busy tour schedule.

The concert will also coincide with the Downtown Barrie Butter Tart Festival, so visitors can enjoy the festivities during the day and top it off with live musical entertainment in the evening.

“Barrie’s waterfront is the perfect place for our community to come together and enjoy great live music,” said Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall. “We’re excited to welcome Canadian rock legend Kim Mitchell for a memorable summer concert in the heart of downtown Barrie. Events like this bring energy to our downtown, support local businesses, and create opportunities for residents and visitors alike to connect and make lasting summer memories in our beautiful city.”

The festival is in its third year and features more than 100 vendors offering the community different flavours of butter tarts and other treats and items from local vendors and artisans.

Mitchell led Canadian rock band Max Webster in the 1970s before transitioning to a solo career. He was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2021.
