Residents are being asked to not be alarmed if they see police and paramedics near Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden. In a statement, CFB Borden says a training exercise is planned for Tuesday that will require first responders to be on location. This means residents may see staff and vehicles from Barrie Police Service, South Simcoe Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and Simcoe County Paramedics. “This exercise is conducted strictly for training purposes,” the statement from CFB Borden reads. “At no time will the safety or security of base personnel or the public be at risk.” CFB Borden says the exercise is meant to strengthen “interoperability” with local first responders by working on emergency response plans and assessing how well CFB can respond to threats against personnel and infrastructure on base. “These complex training scenarios are essential to maintaining a high level of preparedness and ensuring the safety of the defence community and area residents,” CFB Borden says.
