Workplace fatality at Oro-Medonte landfill under investigation

The Ministry of Labour is investigating the death of an individual at the Oro-Medonte landfill.

An investigation is underway at the landfill in Oro-Medonte following a fatal incident at the site Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the landfill on Old Barrie Road where the Ministry of Labour says a female worker was struck by a vehicle at the site. The ministry confirmed the woman did not survive.

A statement from the County of Simcoe said, “Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues affected by this tragic loss.”

The Oro-Medonte Landfill will remained closed for further investigation and flags have been lowered to half-mast at the county’s administration centre in memory of their lost colleague, the statement said.

Paramedics told CTV News a second person was taken to the hospital with what they described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The area is currently closed to the public for the investigation.

“As the investigation remains ongoing, the ministry is unable to provide further details at this time,” officials concluded.
