Woman dies after weekend fire in Halifax, autopsy to be conducted

A 50-year-old woman died after a fire in a Halifax apartment building over the weekend.

Halifax police say emergency crews responded to the fire on Enid Avenue around 9:40 p.m. on April 3. They learned one resident was in the unit where the fire started and another resident had entered the unit to help.

Firefighters found two women in the unit and they were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“On April 9, the woman who resided in the unit where the fire originated, succumbed to her injuries,” a news release from Halifax Regional Police reads. “Police extend sincere condolences to the woman’s loved ones.”

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police are investigating the fire and calling it suspicious.
