A Nova Scotia shelter is teaming up with a U.S.-based app to help guide people through the process of adopting an animal. Petszel helps families in the days and months after bringing a pet home. The app automatically customizes for each adopted pet, with information provided by shelters about their species, medical records and more. The Nova Scotia SPCA says it is the first animal shelter in Atlantic Canada to use a post-adoption app. “Having this kind of post-adoption support is very important to ensuring a smooth and happy transition for new furry family members and everyone in the home during those first crucial months,” says animal operations chief Heather Woodin. “Petszel provides resources at adopters’ fingertips day and night.” The SPCA hopes the app will help increase adoptions and reduce the number of returned animals. Petszel also share resources with adopters, like local trainers, food and veterinary care.
