N.B. RCMP conducts new search in Moncton for man missing since October 2023

Codiac Regional RCMP officers were back searching for evidence in Moncton, N.B., over the weekend as they continue to investigate the case of a 33-year-old man who disappeared more than two years ago.

Justin Field was last seen at a hotel on Mountain Road in Moncton, N.B., on Oct. 6, 2023. He was reported missing 12 days later, on Oct. 18, 2023.

Police and members of the Tri-County Ground Search and Rescue were in the areas of Front Mountain Road, Route 2, Mountain Road, and Gorge Road on Saturday in connection with the search for Field.

“This search was conducted based on information and investigative analysis that warranted a further assessment of the area,” said Cpl. Luc Picard, media relations officer for Codiac Regional RCMP, in an emailed statement to CTV News Atlantic.

“Specific details will not be shared, as doing so could jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.”

Picard noted seasonal conditions can affect visibility when police are conducting searches, particularly in wooded environments.

“With the snow now melted and ground cover reduced, search teams are better able to observe terrain and identify any items or potential evidence that may not have been visible at other times of the year,” he said.

Picard didn’t say whether crews found anything of note during Saturday’s search.

“Conducting a search does not necessarily indicate new conclusions; rather, it reflects our ongoing commitment to thoroughly examining all relevant possibilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Picard is urging anyone with information that could assist in their investigation to come forward.

“Missing person investigations do not operate on a fixed timeline, and information can come forward months or even years after a disappearance,” he said. “Members of the public play an important role in supporting investigations.”
