Man facing several charges after false shooting report: N.S. RCMP

Police say a man is facing more than a dozen firearm charges after he made a false report about a shooting in Cole Harbour, N.S., last year.

RCMP responded to a report of an injured man in the parking lot of a store in the 0-100 block of Forest Hill Parkway just before 4 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2025.

Officers found a man at the scene who had been shot.

Paramedics arrived and took the 31-year-old man to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the time, investigators didn’t believe the shooting was random and said there was no risk to public safety.

A search warrant was later executed at his home on Hugh Allen Drive, which is just off Forest Hills Parkway.

Police say they seized a semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a quantity of cash.

A search warrant was executed at a home in the 100 block of Walker Avenue in Lower Sackville in connection with the investigation last Friday.

The same 31-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested.

Police say they seized a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition from the home.

The woman was released pending a scheduled court appearance in Dartmouth provincial court.

Kyler David Benight has been charged with:

• careless use of firearm (three counts)
• possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (three counts)
• unauthorized possession of a firearm (three counts)
• possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (three counts)
• possession of a weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized (two counts)
• possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition (three counts)
• possession of a weapon obtained by commission of an offence (three counts)
• public mischief
• possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)

Benight remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth court on Thursday.
