The Halifax Stanfield International Airport saw steady traffic last month and it’s expecting that momentum will carry forward into a record-breaking year. The Halifax International Airport Authority says its June passenger numbers were up 19 per cent compared to the same time last year. International traffic was also up by 41 per cent. Passenger volumes increased by 12 per cent in the previous quarter (April to June) compared to 2025, making it the strongest second quarter to date for the airport. The authority is predicting it will have 4.4 million passengers walk through the airport by the end of 2026. In 2025 the airport had 4.1 million passengers and processed 27,180 metric tonnes of cargo. “More travellers are choosing Halifax Stanfield, and that growth reflects the strength of our region, our airline partnerships and our role as a gateway connecting Atlantic Canada to the world,” said Joyce Carter, president and CEO of the authority, in a news release. “As the most internationally connected airport of our size in North America, we are focused on delivering safe, efficient operations.” The airport recently added 15 European flights for the summer, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Frankfurt.
