Teams from New Brunswick, Czechia win World Pond Hockey Championship in Plaster Rock, N.B.

Sunday afternoon’s final games in the World Pond Hockey Championship at Plaster Rock, N.B., saw teams from New Brunswick and Czechia come out on top.

The Bras, based in Grand Falls, N.B., won the ladies division championship with teammates Janie LeBlanc, Amelie Dion, Marie-Philip Dumont, Floriane Dion and Gabrielle Forget.

The open division champions are the Frognoses, based in Kolin, Czechia, with team members Jan Smejkal, Ladislav Hlaves, Martin Mejzr, Martin Cerny and Petr Pycha.

The 2026 pond hockey tournament saw 450 players across 90 teams – 80 teams in the men’s division and 10 teams in the lady’s division – on Roulston Lake over four days.

Canada was represented by teams from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba, with U.S. teams playing from Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania.

International teams travelled from the United Kingdom, Slovakia and Czechia.

The first World Pond Hockey Championship event was held in 2002.
