Stephen Colbert shows his love for sea shanties and ‘Barrett’s Privateers’

Late night TV host Stephen Colbert told Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant he is big fan of sea shanties, including “Barrett’s Privateers.”

Late night TV host Stephen Colbert is a big fan of sea shanties, including “Barrett’s Privateers.”

Colbert spoke with Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant in a “Colbert Before Air” video posted to social media this week.

They spoke about English folk music, which Plant didn’t want to be confused for sea shanties, since he isn’t a fan of them.

“Have you got a favorite sea shanty?” Plant asked the audience. “No.”

To which Colbert said he does – Stan Rogers’ “Barrett’s Privateers.”

He then sang the first few lines of the song, which Plant didn’t seem familiar with.

“We gotta go on the road!” Colbert said after serenading Plant.

Colbert has previously sung the 1976 tune on “The Late Show” with musician Jack White and Canadian crooner Michael Bublé.

White has ties to Nova Scotia and also sang “Barrett’s Privateers” during his 2018 concert in Halifax.
