Four Maritime restaurants listed among Canada’s best

Four restaurants in the Maritimes have made a recent list of the best across Canada.

Canada’s 100 Best shared its latest list on Monday. Last week it shared Canada’s 50 best bars. Two Nova Scotia spots made that list.

The list of Canada’s best restaurants was determined with help from 160 judges.

“The weight of their votes in each province and region is proportional to its population. Each judge is asked to submit a list of their top 10 restaurant experiences of the previous year, ranking them with consideration to service, decor, depth of the cellar and — above all else — food quality,” reads a post on Canada’s 100 Best’s website.

Mystic on the Halifax waterfront came in at No. 16.

“A beautiful location for an incredible Maritime coastal experience,” said reviewer Lanita Layton.

Tribute, a little farther down Lower Water Street in Halifax, is No. 53 on the list.

The restaurant is run by Colin Bebbington, who previously worked at Chicago’s Spiaggia and Davies and Brook in London before returning home to Halifax open the wood-fired, open-flame spot.

The Inn at Bay Fortune in Souris, P.E.I., took the No. 87 spot.

Chef Michael Smith hosts a four-hour farm-to-table feast featuring local produce, beef and seafood at the five-star country inn.

Les Brumes du Coude in Moncton, N.B., came in at No. 91.

The casual 40-seat space in the Aberdeen Cultural Centre features modern French dishes with an Acadian flair, featuring local seafood, salmon and pork. The pasta also comes highly recommended by reviewers.

Two spots in St. John’s, Newfoundland, also made the list – Terre came in at No. 58 and Portage came in at No. 72.
