Victoria is known for a lot of things: historic landmarks, breathtaking scenery and according to Amazon – romance.

For the fifth year in a row British Columbia’s capital was crowned the top spot in Canada for lovers.

However, the annual ranking isn’t based on fine dining, picturesque hikes or kayaking in the Inner Harbour. The data was gathered based on buying habits.

Victoria had the highest sales in every category on the popular e-commerce website: romance novels, love songs, jewelry and sexual wellness products.

People living in Victoria also enjoy watching romantic comedies, including Sleepless in Seattle, Julia Robert’s breakout film Pretty Woman and the Christmas classic Love Actually.

According to Amazon, bookshelves in the city were also filled with titles by Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts.

The best-selling romance novel of the year was Jojo Moyes' tearjerker Me Before You.

Abbotsford ranked second on the list and North Vancouver was third.

Victoria wasn’t the only city on Vancouver Island to receive a romantic shout out, Nanaimo took the eighth spot.

Kamloops, Prince George and Maple Ridge also made the top 20.

The data was collected from Jan 1, 2015 to Jan. 1, 2016 in cities with a minimum population of 80,000 people.
