A woman who died after falling off a cliff at the Sooke Potholes was sitting with her spouse just before it happened, the BC Coroners Service says.

Sooke resident Alysha Buzzeo, 28, was with her spouse on a rocky ledge Saturday night when she tried to stand up, but lost her footing.

She fell about 12 metres to the rocks below, and first responders pronounced her dead at the scene. No rescue was required.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP are now investigating the death.

Buzzeo’s family has been notified and is asking for privacy, according to the coroner.
