A 40-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal assault Saturday morning.

Officers were called to a domestic-related assault at roughly 3:10 a.m. in the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 33-year-old woman with severe injuries. She was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she later died from her injuries.

Police identified the woman as Stephanie Anderson-Paupanekis, a member of Norway House First Nation who had been living in Winnipeg since 2024.

The K9 unit found a man nearby and he was taken into custody.

Jason Matthew Keam, 40, also from Norway House First Nation, was charged with second-degree murder and has been detained in custody.

The charge has not been proven in court.
