Winnipeg police have made arrests in two separate homicides that occurred on Sunday.

Police were called to a home in the 700 block of Pacific Avenue at roughly 6:15 a.m. for reports of a man who appeared to have been assaulted. When they arrived, they found the man had died. He has been identified as Kelsey Traverse, 32, of Lake St. Martin First Nation. Police said he was living in Winnipeg.

A suspect was later arrested at a home in the 100 block of Kate Street.

Michael George Lavallee, 33, is charged with second-degree murder and was detained in custody.

Police allege Lavallee and Traverse knew each other and were involved in an altercation at the Pacific Avenue home where the homicide occurred.

Lavallee is in custody.

The second homicide investigation started at 8:40 a.m. when a 31-year-old man went to police headquarters to turn himself in on an unrelated warrant. During the intake, police said new information emerged that prompted officers to attend a hotel in the 300 block of Ellice Avenue.

When they arrived, a 34-year-old woman was found dead. She has been identified as Tara Walker, 34, of Chemawawin Cree Nation.

Andrew James Sinclair was charged with second-degree murder and was detained in custody.

Police allege the two knew each other and an altercation took place in a hotel room, which resulted in Walker’s death.

None of the charges in either case have been proven in court.
