Suspect in random attack at Forks jumps from window to escape police, is arrested: WPS

Winnipeg police have arrested a man who was wanted for a random assault at The Forks in early June.

On June 6, police said a 30-year-old man was randomly attacked to the point of losing consciousness around 11:15 p.m. at The Forks.

Police said he was knocked to the ground by another man who then stole something from him.

It’s believed he also then threw that item at a woman who was walking her dog nearby.

The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition.

It was believed the suspect was also involved in a robbery on June 7, when a woman’s purse was stolen while she was standing in line at a beer vendor. Police said the suspect was also involved in a break-and-enter at a home in River Heights.

Police issued a warrant for Daniel Christopher Dumas on June 26.

On July 6, police went to an apartment building in the 600 block of Jefferson Avenue, as it was believed Dumas was there.

When officers arrived, police said Dumas jumped from a third-floor window to try and avoid being arrested.

After a short pursuit, he was arrested, with police using a Taser to gain control of him.

Dumas, 33, has been charged with multiple offences, including robbery and break and enter.

He remains in custody and the charges against him haven’t been tested in court.
