Winnipeg man drowns at Pinawa Dam

A man has died after falling into the water at Pinawa Dam Provincial Heritage Park. (CTV News Winnipeg)

Mounties have recovered the body of a man who slipped and fell into a former dam near Lac du Bonnet and Pinawa.

RCMP said 8 p.m. Sunday night a man was seen slipping off the rocks and falling into the water at Pinawa Dam Provincial Heritage Park.

Mounties said he was at the top of a small waterfall before falling.

Officers and fire crews then arrived to search the shoreline where the man fell. Efforts to find him were unsuccessful.

The next afternoon, RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems and Manitoba Conservation recovered the man’s body.

Mounties identified the man, saying he was 20 years old and from Winnipeg. Mounties did not share the victim’s name.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP continue to investigate.
