A Winnipeg man has been arrested after police say he made plans to travel to the United States to sexually abuse a child.

Winnipeg police were notified that an undercover police officer in the States was communicating with a man in Winnipeg, and during their conversation, sexually abusing children was discussed.

As part of the conversation, the undercover officer said they “knew of a mother that allowed for the sexual abuse of her 10-year-old daughter,” and asked if the man wanted to talk with her.

Police said the man agreed to contacting the mother and a plan was made for him to travel to the U.S. to sexually assault the child.

On March 6, police executed a warrant at a home in the 900 block of Dorchester Avenue.

A 47-year-old man was arrested and is now facing a number of child pornography charges.

He was released from custody and the charges against him haven’t been tested in court.
