Game 5 Winnipeg Whiteout Street Party will result in road closures

A Whiteout Street Party is set to take over downtown Winnipeg on Wednesday evening, bringing with it road closures and transit reroutes.

The Winnipeg Jets host the St. Louis Blues in a crucial Game 5. The teams are tied 2-2 in the series.

The Whiteout Street Party is sold out for Game 5.

Though the game doesn’t begin until 8:30 p.m., the closures will start as early as 9 a.m.

This includes southbound Donald Street between Portage Avenue and St. Mary Avenue, which will close at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and reopen on Thursday at 7 a.m.

Eastbound and westbound Graham Avenue between Hargrave Street and Smith Street will also be shut down from Wednesday at 9 a.m. until Thursday at 7 a.m.

The City of Winnipeg is reminding drivers to plan for additional travel time in the area and to use alternate routes.

Along with road closures, Winnipeg Transit buses will be rerouted off Graham Avenue between Kennedy Street and Smith Street starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Regular service will resume on Thursday.

Passengers who want to catch buses on the affected routes should stop at the intersections of Graham Avenue and Vaughan Street or Graham Avenue and Fort Street.

During the reroutes, the Transit Plus loading zone on southbound Donald at Graham Avenue will be moved to eastbound Portage Avenue next to the Radisson Hotel. The loading zone at the Millennium Library will be temporarily relocated to the eastbound front driveaway of the Winnipeg Police Service headquarters, and the City Place loading zone will be moved to northbound Hargrave Street on the north side of St. Mary Avenue.

The City of Winnipeg notes that the Millennium Library will be closing at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It adds that the Donald Street entrance of the Millennium Library Parkade will be closed as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday and will reopen on Thursday.
