A vacant home in Winnipeg’s Elmwood neighbourhood will be torn down following a fire Sunday morning.
Crews called to the 400 block of William Newton Avenue just before 7 a.m. They arrived to find heavy black smoke and flames coming from the boarded-up house.
Firefighters attacked the blaze outside while protecting neighbouring homes from fire and heat damage. The fire was declared under control at 8:30 a.m.
In a news release, the city said an emergency demolition is slated to take place due to structural concerns. Some roads in the area will be closed until the demolition is complete.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The city noted the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service previously responded to fires at the house in August and September 2024.
