Two people have been arrested after a “head on” crash with RCMP.
The incident happened in Portage la Prairie on Feb. 22 around 7:40 p.m. when an officer saw three men inside a vehicle that had been stolen from Winnipeg.
The officer tried to pull them over on Tupper Street Bridge, with two other cruisers on the other side of the bridge ready to help out.
Police said when the driver of the vehicle saw the other police cruisers, they sped up, missed one of the cruisers, and crashed into the other.
One officer and two of the suspects required medical care following the crash.
Two of the three men inside the vehicle were arrested.
A 36-year-old man from Winnipeg was charged with assaulting an officer, assaulting an officer with a weapon and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, along with other offences.
A 30-year-old man from Winnipeg was charged with possessing a prohibited firearm with ammunition, obstructing a police officer and possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, along with other offences.
Police said both men were remanded into custody.
The third man was released without charges, police said.
