Four candidates nominated for AMC Grand Chief

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs has announced the list of candidates for its upcoming Grand Chief byelection.

According to a post on AMC’s social media page, former York Factory First Nation Chief Leroy Constant, Sapotaweyak Cree Nation Band Councillor Bava Dhillon, former Peguis First Nation Chief Glenn Hudson, and former Long Plain Chief Kyra Wilson are on the ticket.

AMC said all nominations were verified and validated by the chief electoral officer by a Jan. 18 deadline.

The leadership race is to replace former Grand Chief Cathy Merrick who died suddenly in September.

Chief Betsy Kennedy was appointed acting grand chief after her death.

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs represents 63 First Nations in the province.
