Winnipeg police say an arrest has been made in connection with a crash last fall where a car slammed into a Norwood-area business after driving three times the speed limit.
Officers say a 21-year-old Winnipeg man was arrested at his home on Monday without incident.
He was charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance and was released on an appearance notice.
The charge stems from an October 2024 crash in the 400 block of St. Mary’s Road.
Police were called to the scene at 2 a.m. to find a 2009 Dodge Charger SRT8 lying on its roof in the parking lot of a business.
It was severely damaged and inoperable. A hydro pole, guard rail, street sign, and a commercial business were also extensively damaged, police say.
Officers believe two people ran from the scene before they arrived.
Through their investigation, police found the car was travelling 213 km/h moments before the collision and at 158 km/h upon impact. The posted speed limit on the roadway is 60 km/h.
Miraculously, no injuries were reported.
The charge has not been tested in court.
