This week promised to send a few rounds of snow across Manitoba, and so far it has delivered.

Light snow will move out of Winnipeg and the rest of the south on Thursday afternoon, then head east into northwestern Ontario.

There is still the risk of freezing rain or freezing drizzle in southern Manitoba this afternoon, so be prepared for slick roads and highways.

Temperatures across the south will hover close to freezing - rising just above, or staying just below, which will add to the potential for slippery conditions.

Meanwhile, most of northern Manitoba will enjoy much brighter conditions Thursday afternoon, with sunshine or a mix of sun and clouds.

As one disturbance moves off Thursday afternoon, a much more substantial low pressure system is set to roar into Manitoba, starting this evening with snow in the northwest.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasts as much as five to 10 cm of snowfall in Flin Flon tonight, with similar amounts in Thompson on Friday as the system spreads across the province.

ECCC could issue snowfall warnings for northern or central regions as the system gets closer to Manitoba.

Slick conditions could continue into Thursday evening in the southwest, where there will still be a risk of freezing drizzle. The risk is much lower in the southeast.

Ahead on Friday, as snow spreads across the north, much of the south will be cloudy. The chance of rain showers or freezing rain will increase later in the day.

By Friday night, rain showers, freezing rain, flurries, or snow are all in the mix of possibilities across the south, including Winnipeg.

Saturday will be a blustery day with snow and strong winds expected in the south.
