Winter weather travel advisory in effect for Windsor-Essex

CTV Windsor meteorologist Gary Archibald talks about the winter weather travel advisory in effect for the region.

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Windsor and Essex County.

It is in effect from Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon.

A Special Weather Statement was also issued Wednesday due to showers and thunderstorms.

The forecast says icy and slippery conditions will begin near midnight as temperatures rapidly fall below the freezing mark. Westerly to northwesterly winds gusting to 70 kilometres per hour.

Reduced visibility in snow and local blowing snow. Snowfall amounts of 2 to 4 centimetres.

Over exposed areas, reduced visibility due to local blowing snow could persist into Thursday evening. Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Slow down driving in slippery conditions.
