Transit Windsor receives over $4.4 million through Ontario gas tax funding

Transit Windsor has been granted $4,462,356 through the Ontario gas tax program, supporting public transit in the area.

The money can be used to expand service hours, increase routes, buy new buses or vehicles, and improve accessibility. In Windsor’s case, it will support the operating budget.

“Transit Windsor’s ongoing operational investments are making a difference,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens.

“These investments contribute to continuous improvements in service delivery and responsive planning. The whole of city council recognizes that public transit is a core municipal service and approved $5.3 million in 2026 to support capital investments in public transit.”

Between Ontario’s investment and Windsor’, Transit Windsor is receiving almost $10 million this year.

“Investing in public transit is investing in the people of Windsor,” said Windsor-Tecumseh MPP, Andrew Dowie.

“This funding will strengthen Transit Windsor and help ensure residents can rely on safe, efficient service – when and where they need it. Our government remains committed to building a stronger, more connected community."
