Snowfall warning in effect as weather system moves through region

A snowfall warning is in effect Sunday as heavy snowfall is expected.

A weather system is moving into the region Sunday morning, bringing snowfall amounts up to 10 to 20 cm.

In addition to the snow, it’ll be cold. Today’s forecast is calling for a high of minus 8, feeling like minus 20 with the windchill.

Experts warn easterly winds gusting 40 to 50 km/h may result in local blowing snow, particularly for exposed areas.

Travelling during this snowstorm is not recommended.

Sunday: Snow at times heavy and local blowing snow. Amount 10 to 15 cm. Wind northeast 30 km/h gusting to 50. High minus 8. Wind chill near minus 20.

Sunday night: Periods of light snow ending near midnight then cloudy with a few flurries beginning before morning. Wind north 20 km/h gusting to 40. Low minus 12. Wind chill near minus 20.

Monday: A few flurries ending in the morning then mainly cloudy. Local amount 2 cm. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. High minus 10. Wind chill near minus 20.

Tuesday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 7.

Wednesday: A mix of sun and cloud with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 10.

Thursday: A mix of sun and cloud. High minus 9.

Friday: A mix of sun and cloud. High minus 8.
