Police in Michigan said they apprehended a hospital employee who shot and wounded a co-worker Thursday morning in a northern suburb of Detroit, an incident that prompted a lockdown at the sprawling medical complex and area schools.
The Troy Police Department said on the social media platform X that the suspect was in custody, less than three hours after the incident which sparked a large multi-agency police response and a floor-by-floor search of the hospital.
“We’re very thankful that all these agencies dropped everything they had going on and responded immediately to assist us search the hospital,” Troy Police Lt. Ben Hancock said.
Police found the man at a home in nearby Macomb Township, 7 News Detroit reported.
Earlier in the morning, Hancock said the victim, a 25-year-old man from Troy, was shot twice in the arm and was in stable condition. He said it appeared to be “a targeted incident” between the two men.
