A novice driver from Leamington is facing impaired driving charges after a traffic stop in the municipality.

On Sunday just after 1 a.m., a Leamington OPP officer saw a vehicle that they suspected was being operated by a potential impaired driver on Erie Street South.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and determined the driver had drank alcohol previously.

The OPP said a 32-year-old of Leamington is now facing charges for operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero and a class G1 license holder – driving at an unlawful hour.

As a result, the driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
