A new program in Windsor Essex is empowering newcomers to be entrepreneurs.
It’s called the New Start Ventures Program supported by the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre (SBEC) – a division of Invest Windsor-Essex and funded by the Libro Credit Union.
The initiative is free and equips newcomers to Canada with knowledge, skills, and resources needed to be successful in running a new business.
It’s aimed at permanent residents and refugees who have been in Canada for fewer than five years.
Newcomers to Canada play a crucial role in driving economic development and contribute significantly to job creation as they bring valued skills, academic training, experience, creativity, and knowledge to our national community. Addressing obstacles such as access to business knowledge, financial resources and networking opportunities – this new program will help aspiring newcomer entrepreneurs make their business ideas a reality.

Sabrina DeMarco is the executive director of SBEC. DeMarco is appreciative of the local support of the Libro Credit Union and is enthusiastic about what this program can do to help newcomers with business savvy in Windsor-Essex launch their own successful businesses.
“For anyone watching who’s interested in applying and learning more, you can certainly connect with us online at WEBusinessCenter.com to learn more about the program and to apply,” said De Marco.
“So, we are accepting applications, from now until March 15th for our first cohort of the program.”
Participants will have access to expert advisors, mentorship and networking events to help connect with the community.
The first cohort starts March 31.
