Election Day Primer: Here are the candidates running in Windsor-Tecumseh

There are seven people running to be the next Member of Provincial Parliament for the riding, which is home to more than 122,000 people.

In 2022, Percy Hatfield did not seek re-election after holding the seat for a decade.

Ten people ran to win the seat.

Andrew Dowie took 45 per cent of the vote with the NDP’s Gemma Grey-Hall earning 29 per cent.

On Feb. 27, seven people are on the ballot for Windsor-Tecumseh.

Andrew Dowie (Progressive Conservative Party)

Since winning the seat in June 2022, Dowie is touting his work in securing “electric vehicle sector investments, launching the final phase of widening Highway 3, and investing millions to expand healthcare facilities and training opportunities for local workers,” according to a news release.

Dowie hopes to continue with that work in this election, focusing his campaign on fighting the American tariffs.

Kyle Ford (Communist Party)

Ford plans to use his background working in the tool and die industry to advocate for workers’ rights.

He said he has participated in numerous local labour disputes in recent years across all sectors

He wants to prioritize “peoples needs over corporate greed,” according to his news release.

Steven Gifford (Ontario Party)

Gifford describes himself as a community leader committed to maintaining local manufacturing.

“My platform will tackle our current healthcare crisis, reduce high energy costs,” according to a post on social media.

Gifford plans to prioritize “education reform, by getting back to the basics and by removing DEI curriculum.”

Gemma Grey-Hall (New Democratic Party)

Grey-Hall is a certified fundraiser professional who has served on numerous boards for local charities.

That’s experience she wants to use to push back against American tariffs, to fight for more affordable housing and reinvest in healthcare.

Connor Logan (Liberal Party)

Logan is a graduate of the University of Windsor, with experience working in constituency offices in the GTA.

He is running in Windsor-Tecumseh on a campaign to make housing more affordable for young people like him.

Logan will also focus on getting the acute care hospital built, hiring more doctors and cut HST on home heating and hydro.

Sophia Sevo (New Blue Party)

Born and raised in Windsor, Sevo is a fashion grad from Montreal who returned to the region after “NAFTA decimated the North American garment industry,” according to her website.

Sevo said she was motivated to enter politics after losing her mother and witnessing first-hand the problems in Ontario’s healthcare system.

She is campaigning on increased funding to healthcare, hiring of more domestic nurses and reversing euthanasia legislation.

Roxanne Tellier (Green Party)

Tellier is new to Windsor, having just moved here in 2022, according to her website.

She wants to fight for “housing, food security, and public services over privatization” and brings a “diverse career” in writing, business and advocacy.
