Damage estimated at $1 million after Wyandotte plaza fire

An overnight fire has caused upwards of $1 million in damage in downtown Windsor.

Windsor fire officials say damage is estimated upwards of $1 million after a fire in a plaza on Wyandotte Street West.

The blaze broke out around 1:30 a.m. Monday at a two‑unit plaza at 366 Wyandotte Street West, near Church Street.

Chief fire prevention officer John Smith says crews brought the fire under control within 45 minutes.

He says there was damage to a market containing a restaurant and a second unit containing a medical clinic.

Fire officials say the early origin and cause investigation cannot rule out an electrical failure in the market/restaurant.

Smith says there were no injuries.
