The road in front of Devonshire mall has been completely closed for the past two days for the installation of a 7 km long feeder main.
It’s forced drivers to divert through Devonshire Mall to get around the road work and has caused heavy delays during the home commute.
“That project is so that we can ensure future growth and that the region is ready for growth in the southern end of the city,” said Enwin officials.
They say the intersection will reopen, allowing one lane of traffic in both directions by the weekend.
Howard Avenue and Division Road will still have lane restrictions between the Devonshire Mall intersection and the Union Square Plaza intersection.
But another road closure is on the way.
The railway crossing on Howard Avenue between Division Road and South Cameron Boulevard will be permanently closed after Monday, April 14, 2025.
This is to allow for work on storm sewer improvements, road reconstruction, and widening.
Construction will begin on a new railway grade crossing on Sydney Avenue.
Streetlighting, sidewalk, and multi-use trail improvements will also be done.
All businesses will remain accessible for the duration of the project.
This phase of the project is not expected to be complete until Oct. 31.
