Dreams came true for a young boy from Belle River Thursday – courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and friends.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation helps to raise money to make the dreams come true for children who are facing critical illness.
Dekson Thibert - a Grade 3 student at St. William Catholic Elementary School - was picked up at school by members of the Ontario Provincial Police and Lakeshore Fire Services, then driven to his home with lights flashing and sirens blaring.
When Dekson arrived, to his great surprise his parents, family, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Disney characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse (Dekson’s favourite is Mickey because he thinks he’s cute) were there to greet the thrilled youngster with toys and tickets to Disney World in Orlando Florida for Dekson and his family.
Dekson’s parents – Katelynn and Jeff Thibert – are elated that the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted such a wonderful day for Dekson and the family.
“You know, it just is remarkable to have such a small town come together,” said Katelynn Thibert. “Everyone just knows everybody and genuinely cares for Dekson’s health and well-being. And I think that’s the most important part is that everyone just really prioritized Dekson today, and that’s just so special for him.”
