Are encampments harming nature? ERCA weighs in

A spokesperson for the Essex Region Conservation Authority warns of the environmental risks of encampments.

A local environmental agency is weighing in on a contentious encampment in the city of Windsor.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority says people living or wandering around the property at the end of Salter Street are damaging the natural environment.

They say the area is home to endangered plants and animals

“It’s sad and unfortunate. The current economic climate and whatever else forces people to try and sustain themselves any way that they find available. But those areas, they’re not a safe area to be. And it also is, you know, damaging to the environment. So, it’s not appropriate on any measurable matrix,” said Tim Byrne, ERCA CEO.
