March 15. The Ides of March. A day that, in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, was one to be wary of. “Beware, the Ides of March!” said the soothsayer. When the weather is this nice on Vancouver Island, the dire warning and dramatic foreshadowing doesn’t really apply. Hardly a Tempest brewing in our Hamlet! The stormy weather is off to the east and towards our neighbours in the southern states, which means most of Vancouver Island is As You Like It, with beautiful sunshine today.

sat rad

The low rotating off western Washington will slide southward into Oregon throughout the day, removing any threat of rain on the island for Friday. Much Ado about Nothing in our neck of the woods. Temperatures are cool overnight and in the mornings, but warm up in the afternoons to be right on seasonal average. Not quite a Midsummer Night’s Dream, but pleasant for this time of year nonetheless.

forecast

We might need the luck of the Irish to see a completely dry weather north to south on the island Saturday, St. Patrick’s Day. Another system will track towards the west coast of the island Saturday afternoon. Clouds will increase and there’s a hint at a few isolated showers. The chance of showers is minimal in the Victoria area, but slightly greater towards Campbell River and along the west coast from Sooke to Tofino. With the chill in the air, Measure for Measure, Mt. Washington chould get some more snow, just in time for Spring Break.

futurecast

It’s fair to say we’re done with this Winter’s Tale! From a meteorological standpoint, Spring sprung March 1st, but for everyone following the astronomical seasons, Spring begins Tuesday March 20 at 9:15am Pacific. And it can’t come soon enough! Longer days, warmer temperatures; after another La Nina winter with bouts of snow and plenty of windstorms, Islanders are ready for brighter conditions.

Over the next few months projections suggest a return to normal climate conditions as La Nina conditions weaken considerably. So get ready for a typical Spring: mix of sun and clouds with a chance of showers. A Comedy of Errors, some might say!

Ok, that’s enough.
