Fact: Studies show that weather-related “illness” tends to spike when sunshine and warm temperatures settle in. Yes, it’s true. When the weather is good, people skip work. With that in mind, I’m willing to bet a lot of people will be calling in sick on Monday as summer-like temperature return.
For a second weekend in a row, Vancouver Island is on track to break temperature records.
The warm-up begins on Sunday as a ridge of high pressure builds. Expect temperatures on Sunday to reach the high teens to low 20’s; spectacular weather for this time of year, considering the average high temperature is usually around 13°C, and warm enough to be in record territory.
Our best chance to break temperature records is on Monday. Under that high pressure ridge, temperatures will spike to levels normally seen in July or August, especially in valley areas. Port Alberni, are you ready for a 27°C Monday afternoon?
Summer-like weather only holds for a couple of days before temperatures cool to the mid to high teens again. That may sound disappointing, but it shouldn’t. Temperatures are still well above average this month, while precipitation rates for Victoria are definitely on the low side.
If unseasonably warm weather has you feeling unwell, and you’re not going to be at work on Monday, I hear you can recover from your sunny-warm-weather-related “illness” at the beach. Feel better!
