Temperatures soared Tuesday, despite the blanket of wildfire smoke which often has a cooling effect. Daytime high temperature records were broken north to south on the island.
Overnight lows were exceptionally warm too, breaking several records, some that have stood for decades.
Rain on the way
Thursday is our transition day on Vancouver Island. The ridge of high pressure responsible for the heat (and the outflow winds which have wafted the smoke our way) will drift to the east, allowing cool marine air to move onshore once again.
The upper trough and associated front be a refreshing change, clearing the smoke and ash clouding the island. There’s a chance of showers through Saturday for many parts of the island. People hoping for a downpour will be disappointed the rains won’t be soaking.
The transition to Fall
The autumnal equinox is still a couple of weeks away, but we’ll definitely feel the transition to fall as this rain comes our way at the end of this week. Temperatures will return to seasonal average in the next few days. Even early next week is closer to “normal.” It looks like scorching temperatures are almost behind us…for now.
