A woman is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer in North Vancouver last week, according to the local RCMP detachment.
The North Vancouver RCMP says officers were called to a parking lot in Lower Lonsdale Friday after a report two people were trying to gain entry.
Police found a suspect matching a witness description in the 300 block of West 3rd Street, but she fled the scene while officers were speaking to her, according to the detachment, leading officers to chase her down.
Mounties allege the suspect assaulted two officers during the arrest, one sustaining “serious” head injuries that required stitches.
“We are grateful that our injured officer is recovering, and we appreciate the ongoing support from the community as we continue our work to keep North Vancouver safe,” Const. Mansoor Sahak said in a statement issued Tuesday.
Police said the suspect had several outstanding arrest warrants and was breaching a release order by possessing a knife.
Roxanne Lydia Mcginty has now been charged with two counts of breaching a release order, and one count each of assaulting a police officer and resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Online court records indicate Mcginty, born in 1983, remains in custody and her next court appearance is Feb. 21. The records show she has faced previous charges of assault—including assault with a weapon and assaulting a peace officer—theft, mischief and arson.
