A group of youths who chased a man while armed with various weapons Tuesday afternoon have been arrested by police in Surrey.
Police received a call from a man who said he was being chased and shot at by several youth in the area of 149 Street and 104 Avenue shortly before 3 p.m., Surrey Police Services said in a statement Tuesday evening.
Officers from the Provincial Operation Support Unit arrived at the scene and located “numerous youth” who appeared to be involved, while several others fled, running into the Guildford Town Centre shopping mall, said police.
Officers deployed police dogs and a helicopter, and several of the teenagers were taken into custody at various locations in and around the mall.
Several of the youth thought to be involved in the incident are currently being held in custody, while some have been released pending further investigation, said the statement.
“At this early stage, at least one airsoft gun and a can of bear spray has been recovered at the scene and officers are continuing their search for additional weapons that may have been discarded by the youth during the incident,” police said.
No injuries have been reported.
