Mounties in Kamloops say they arrested a suspect following an assault with a weapon in a park earlier this week.

Around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to McArthur Island Park for a report of an assault in progress, according to the Kamloops RCMP.

They found an intoxicated teenager suffering from injuries “consistent with a stab wound,” police said. The victim was taken to hospital with reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

“While police were tending to the victim, another officer located a suspect in her 20s and arrested her,” said spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, in a news release issued Thursday. “She was held in cells until sober, then released with a court date and conditions.”

Police say they expect charges to be laid.

Mounties asked anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the Kamloops detachment at 250-828-3000.
