Suspects charged after hit-and-run victim’s body ‘rolled’ into ditch, B.C. RCMP say

Published:

Five years after a deadly hit-and-run outside Terrace, B.C., two suspects have been charged.

Authorities said the victim, Cameron Kerr, was walking along Highway 16 in the early morning hours of Nov. 18, 2018 when he was struck.

After the collision, Kerr’s body was allegedly “rolled into the ditch,” where a passerby spotted him later the same day, the B.C. RCMP said in a news release.

The men from the Lower Mainland – 36-year-old Taylor Stogryn and 34-year-old Conrad Wierzbicki – are now charged with indignity to human remains. Stogryn is also charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Both men are from Surrey, authorities said.

The B.C. RCMP described the investigation into the hit-and-run as “very complex,” and credited “skilled investigators” with finally securing charges on March 6.

“I want to acknowledge and thank Cameron’s family, and the community, for their patience as we took the necessary time to gather the evidence and advance our investigation. The case will now be before the courts,” said Insp. Mike Kim, in a statement.

B.C. Highway Patrol initially had conduct of the case, and identified two suspects using evidence gathered at the scene and tips from the public.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Special Projects Unit has been working on it since, with help from Terrace RCMP and the Criminal Collision Investigation Team, leading to the charges announced Friday.

Authorities said Stogryn and Wierzbicki are both expected to appear in court in “the near future.” Online records do not show scheduled court dates for either of the accused.
