Police on the Saanich peninsula are asking the public for help as they investigate a bank robbery that occurred Monday afternoon.
Shortly after 2 p.m., a man entered the Scotiabank at 2355 Beacon Ave. in Sidney and gave a teller a note that demanded cash, according to a news release shared by Sidney/North Saanich RCMP on Tuesday.
The suspect was given “an undisclosed amount of money” and was last seen leaving the bank on foot and headed toward Bevan Avenue, police said.
While officers from both the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP and the Central Saanich Police Service responded to the area, along with the RCMP police dog service, the suspect was not located.
Mounties shared a photo of the suspect with their release. They described him as a white man with a “stocky build” who was wearing “a black coat with fur around the hood,” a surgical face mask, black pants, black sneakers and a black backpack. He stands approximately 5′8″, police added.
Anyone with information or video recorded in the area of the robbery between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday should call the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931, police said. The file number for the case is 2025-1309, according to the release.
