Suspect in custody, 2 in hospital after double-stabbing in Langley, B.C.

Two people are in hospital and one man is in police custody after a double-stabbing early Thursday morning in Langley, B.C.

Mounties were called to a report of a disturbance in the 19800 block of 56 Avenue at approximately 3:40 a.m., the Langley RCMP said in a news release.

Officers at the scene arrived to find two people suffering from stab wounds, the RCMP said.

Police provided first aid before the victims were transported to hospital for with serious injuries.

A 33-year-old Langley man was arrested and remains in police custody.

“The investigation is in its early stages and officers are continuing to gather details from the scene,” Sgt. Zynal Sharoom said in the release.

Sharoom told reporters that investigators are still working to determine a motive, and it is not clear if the victims and the suspect know each other.

He added that it appears the stabbing was an isolated incident and that there is no further risk to public safety.

Investigators remained at the scene in an alleyway and a ravine behind an apartment building near Brydon Crescent throughout the morning.

Police say it’s unclear if the victims lived nearby.

“We (have not) definitively identified exactly where they’re living, or what they were doing in that area at the time,” said Sharoom.

The Langley RCMP will be forwarding information to the B.C. Prosecution Service to recommend charges, he added.

“This will be assault with a weapon and possibly attempted murder, depending on the circumstances and the elements of the offence,” said Sharoom.
